Worship with Us
Worship both forms and expresses the faith-experience of the community.
Worshiping God involves telling stories, singing praise and trust and hope, sorrow and joy, delight and wonder. It trains us in lamenting, confessing, adoring, and lifting our cries for the whole world.
At its best, …worship presents a vision of life created, sustained, redeemed and held in the mystery of grace. What we do together in acknowledging God “schools” us in ways of seeing the world and of being in it.
— Don Saliers, Worship and Spirituality
Our worship aims to be transformative in these ways, offering us opportunities to seek comfort and hope, to find our stories in the stories of our faith, and to experience the presence of God.
Worship at Decatur UCC reflects the variety of our backgrounds, drawing upon the music and sacramental life of Christian traditions and our lived experiences as people in the 21st century. Hymns, prayers, a relevant message combined with a variety of styles of music make this a time to re-energize our spirits and connect with God and others. We are challenged to think and act as God’s people of peace, justice, and love.
Our worship service includes songs and hymns, scripture readings, literature, drama, and other arts, and a sermon. We serve communion each week and often participate in other rituals as well. We seek Wisdom in a variety of faith traditions and look for connections between our worship and our social, relational, and political lives.
You may dress comfortably for worship at Decatur UCC.
And you are invited to bring your children!
